AL SB31

Prohibits any person from knowingly possessing a machine gun, including the frame, receiver, or any parts designed to convert a firearm into a machine gun or assemble a machine gun.

Defines "machine gun" as any weapon that shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot automatically more than one shot without manual reloading by a single trigger function.

Violation of the prohibition is classified as a Class C felony.

Exempts state and local law enforcement officers acting in official capacity and any machine guns lawfully owned or possessed under federal law.

Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
