Shelby County Commission may levy an annual additional motor vehicle license and registration issuance fee of up to $2 on each new registration, transfer, or renewal on any vehicle in the county.

The fee is limited to one continuing annual fee and applies to registrations with a motor vehicle license and registration year commencing January 1 following the commission's levy of the new fee.

County license issuing official shall collect the fee on a monthly basis and distribute all proceeds to the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Fund for law enforcement purposes in the county.

The fee is in addition to all other fees, taxes, or other charges for vehicle license and registration and cannot diminish or replace any other source of income for the sheriff or sheriff's office.

The act becomes effective on June 1, 2025.
