AL SB75

Amends Alabama Code Section 13A-8-2 to add a new criminal offense for knowingly obtaining or exerting unauthorized control over any item mailed or shipped to another person with intent to deprive the intended recipient of their property.

Adds this mail and package theft provision as subsection (5) to the existing theft of property statute, joining four other enumerated theft offenses.

Applies the same limitations period rules as other theft by deception offenses, requiring prosecution to commence within five years of discovery of the facts constituting the offense.

Becomes effective on October 1, 2025.
