AL SB80

Renames the Alabama Local Government Training Institute to the Buddy Sharpless Education Institute, honoring O.H. "Buddy" Sharpless, former executive director of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama who led the institute's establishment in 1994.

Changes all references to the institute throughout Code of Alabama 1975 Sections 11-3-42, 11-3-44, 11-3-45, 31-9-61, and 36-25-4.2 to reflect the new name.

Maintains the institute's existing duties including designing and administering training and education for county commissioners, conducting courses within two years of general elections, and providing advanced or continuing training programs.

Updates language changing "person" to "individual" in board member references and contract authority provisions to reflect modern terminology.

Becomes effective October 1, 2025.
