SJR4 Summary

• Commends State Senator and President Pro Tempore Greg Reed for his distinguished service to Senate District 5 and the State of Alabama over 15 years.

• Reed was first elected to the Alabama Senate in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 without opposition; he served as Senate Majority Leader beginning in 2015 and as President Pro Tempore until December 2024.

• Major legislative accomplishments include sponsoring economic development packages including the Working for Alabama bill package, Growing Alabama Act, Alabama Jobs Act, Alabama Growth Alliance Act, and the 2019 AIM Act to recruit businesses to rural counties.

• Reed previously worked as a commercial banker and Vice President of Preferred Medical Systems for 17 years; he also served as Walker County Republican Party Chairman from 1997-2000 and Senior Vice Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party from 2000-2008.

• In December 2024, Reed accepted Governor Kay Ivey's appointment as Senior Advisor to Workforce Transformation to establish the new Department of Workforce.
