SJR60 - Honoring Daniel Pratt as Alabama's First Great Industrialist

• Celebrates Daniel Pratt (1799-1873), who founded Prattville in 1838 and established Alabama's first industrial village with multiple manufacturing businesses including grist mills, cotton mills, foundries, and the Daniel Pratt Gin Company.

• Recognizes Pratt's gin company as the world's largest cotton gin manufacturer, operating for nearly 180 years (1833-2012) under successor names including Continental Gin Company, and its production of World War II munitions and Manhattan Project materials.

• Acknowledges Pratt's role as lead commissioner in designing and constructing Alabama's 1851 State Capitol, his co-founding of Red Mountain Iron & Coal Company in 1862, and his founding of Wheless-Pratt Bank in New Orleans in 1867.

• Honors Pratt's philanthropic contributions including funding schools, churches, libraries, and cultural institutions, and his receipt of the first honorary Master of Mechanical and Useful Arts degree from University of Alabama.

• Resolves that the Alabama Legislature celebrates Pratt's legacy and commits to following his example of investing in communities through faith, family, and service to fellow citizens.
