Employees who are parents or guardians may take up to 48 hours of leave annually to attend school-related activities including parent-teacher conferences, performances, rehearsals, and sporting events

Leave may be unpaid or substituted with available paid leave (vacation, personal, family, compensatory) at the employee's discretion

Employees must provide at least 10 days' advance written notice unless the activity was not reasonably foreseeable

Employers may deny leave if granting it would create substantial disruption to business operations or make production/service unusually difficult

Employers must post workplace notices about the act; willful failure to post may result in fines up to $100 per day, with enforcement by the Alabama Department of Workforce
