Jefferson County Sheriff may appoint special reserve deputies to execute writs involving seizure or securing of real property during "emergency writ conditions" when the backlog exceeds the sheriff's capacity

Special reserve deputies must hold current Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission certification, not be employed by the sheriff's department, and complete sheriff-provided training within the prior three years

Petitioners requesting writ execution by a special reserve deputy pay a service fee directly to the deputy, capped at $250; deputies receive no county funds and the sheriff collects no fee for these services

Special reserve deputies receive the same legal immunities and protections as regular deputies under Section 36-22-3, Code of Alabama 1975, when acting within their designated duties
