Households whose sole source of income is veterans' benefits would be exempt from paying solid waste collection fees, expanding an existing exemption that currently applies only to households living solely on Social Security benefits

"Veterans' benefits" is defined as any benefit, program, service, or entitlement administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, including benefits for veterans, their dependents, and survivors

Households must present proof of income to the county health officer by the first billing date of each year to claim the exemption

The act would take effect on October 1, 2026

Amends Section 22-27-3, Code of Alabama 1975, with additional nonsubstantive technical revisions to update existing code language
