Employees of the Alabama High School Athletic Association hired on or after October 1, 2026 would be prohibited from participating in the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama

Current AHSAA employees already participating in the retirement system would be grandfathered in and allowed to continue their participation

The Alabama High School Athletic Association must continue paying employer costs for employees who began participating before October 1, 2026, with costs determined by an actuary

Amends Section 16-25-7 of the Code of Alabama 1975, which has allowed AHSAA administrative and clerical staff to participate in the state teachers' retirement system since 1967

Effective date: October 1, 2026
