Candidates for appointment to county boards of registrars must submit to a criminal background check through the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency no more than 60 days before appointment consideration, at the candidate's own expense.

Registrars will receive state-paid salary of $115 per day when their scheduled work day coincides with office closure due to a declared county, state, or federal emergency.

Registrars may be treated as state employees for purposes of receiving natural disaster, pandemic, or other emergency relief funds from state or federal government.

Board of registrar members may omit all personal information except their name from publicly available voter registration lists, similar to protections already available to judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers.
