George Hardy Fleming, Sr. of West Blocton, Alabama, who passed away on February 15, 2026, at age 89, is honored through a joint resolution of the Alabama Legislature

Fleming served 20 years in the U.S. Army (1954-1974) as a Military Policeman, including service in Vietnam and as a military escort for General Omar Bradley at President Eisenhower's funeral in 1969

Following his military career, he served as Chief of Police for West Blocton from 1978 to 1995, then was elected Sheriff of Bibb County until his retirement in 2002

The resolution was passed by the House on February 26, 2026, and adopted by the Senate on March 5, 2026
