Commonwealth is one of only 14 Black-owned and operated banks in the United States and one of just four nationally chartered Black-owned banks

The bank was founded during a time of discriminatory lending practices to provide financial inclusion and access to capital for Black families, small businesses, and low to moderate-income communities

The resolution honors the bank's founders, original directors, and current leadership under President and CEO Sidney King for continuing to invest in Mobile's communities
