Alabama Legislature jointly honors Dr. Neil E. Christopher of Guntersville, who passed away on January 22, 2026, at age 92

Dr. Christopher served two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam (1967-1969), commanding the American Military Public Health Assistance Program and receiving the Bronze Star

Founding member of the American Academy of Family Physicians who served as Chair of its Rural Healthcare Committee and spearheaded creation of the Alabama Family Practice Rural Health Board

Received numerous honors including Family Doctor of the Year, the Samuel Buford Word Award for humanitarian service, induction into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame, and an endowed chair established in his name at UAB

Resolution passed the House on February 5, 2026 and was adopted by the Senate on February 10, 2026
