Hess was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 8 and has served as Youth Ambassador, Children's Congress Delegate, and One Walk Team Captain with Breakthrough T1D

Advocacy activities include fundraising initiatives, speaking engagements, One Walks, One Night Galas, and meetings with congressional staff from U.S. Congress members' offices
