Alabama House Resolution mourning the death of David Thomas Gallaher ("Microwave Dave"), a blues musician who died February 6, 2026, in Huntsville at age 79

Gallaher served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as an aerial photograph interpreter and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1971

Founded Microwave Dave & the Nukes in 1989, building an international following over three decades and hosting the radio program "Talkin' the Blues" on WJAB 90.9 FM and WLRH 89.3 FM

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle proclaimed June 28 as "Microwave Dave Day" in perpetuity starting in 2015, which inspired creation of The Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit awarding four annual music lesson scholarships to North Alabama students

Resolution pays tribute to his legacy of bringing music education to schools, hospice bedsides, and civic gatherings throughout North Alabama
