Graben began volunteering in 1969 at age 12 after being recruited by Boy Scout leaders, and joined the Rosalie Fire Department when it was established in 1972

Currently serves as Second Lieutenant over Water Operations with the Tri-Community Fire Department, having previously held positions including Co-Captain and First Lieutenant

Specialized in water searches on the Tennessee River and pursued training in rope rescue, tracking, and advanced water rescue techniques

Inspired multiple generations of family members—including siblings, children, and grandchildren—to join the rescue squad
