Mrs. Akenhead holds a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition from The University of Alabama and a master's degree from UAB, and worked as a Clinical Dietitian at UAB Hospital

Recognizes her community leadership roles including Trustee for Randolph School, Chair of Vive Le Livre for the Library Foundation, board member of Huntsville Hospital Foundation, and involvement with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and Huntsville Museum of Art
