Alabama House Resolution mourning the death of Thomas Michele "Tom" Withers of Mobile, who died February 26, 2026, at age 91

Withers was the first African-American automobile salesman in Mobile, working at Robinson Brothers Lincoln-Mercury and earning recognition as one of the Gulf Coast's most accomplished auto sales professionals

Graduate of Central High School (1952) and Tuskegee Institute (1956), he worked as an educator at Mobile County Training School and Mary G. Montgomery High School before entering auto sales

Active in Mobile civic life through the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Original Dragons Social Club, Bay Area Riding Club, and the Mobile Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors

Continued greeting visitors at the Port of Mobile's Carnival cruise terminal until age 90; survived by wife Vivian Stewart Withers, daughter, twin granddaughters, and extended family
