Worked as a mathematics professor at Alabama State University until 2023 and served as a funeral director at Phillips-Riley Funeral Home from 1982 to 2021

Ordained as a Deacon at Stonetank Antioch Baptist Church on December 10, 2000, and initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on March 17, 2000
