Alabama House Resolution urges U.S. Congress to pass the Major Richard Star Act (H.R. 2102, S. 1032), which would allow veterans with disabilities to receive both full Department of Defense retirement pay and VA disability compensation without offset.

Current federal law requires a dollar-for-dollar offset for veterans who were medically retired with fewer than 20 years of service, resulting in an average loss of $1,200 per month in earned benefits.

Approximately 50,000 veterans with disabilities nationwide, including those with combat-related injuries, are affected by the current offset policy.

Copies of the resolution would be sent to the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, Senate Majority Leader, and Alabama's congressional delegation.
