Phillip Mays served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and continued service in the National Guard in Clarke County

Graduated from Auburn University and Troy University, and worked for the State of Alabama as a Mental Health Psychologist III and licensed Psychometrist

Achieved a Third Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo and enjoyed chess and music

Survived by wife Vera, daughter Stacy Mays Turner, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren
