Dr. Lynda Blackmon Lowery of Selma, Alabama died on December 24, 2025, at age 75; the Alabama House of Representatives formally mourns her death and celebrates her life

At age 15, she was the youngest of the 300 marchers who completed the full 54-mile Selma to Montgomery march in March 1965; on Bloody Sunday (March 7, 1965), she was beaten by law enforcement on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, requiring 35 stitches

Authored the award-winning memoir "Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom: My Story of the Selma Voting Rights March," later adapted for stage and graphic novels

Served as Senior Case Manager at Cahaba Mental Health and held leadership roles including President of the Board of Selma AIDS Information and Referral; affiliated with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and the Alabama Democratic Conference

Received honorary Doctorate Degree from Carolina Christian College (May 2025), key to the City of Detroit (March 2024), and was named among "This Is Alabama Women Who Shape the State" honorees in 2025
