AL SB17

Establishes rape in the first degree, sodomy in the first degree, and sexual torture as capital offenses (eligible for the death penalty) when the victim is less than 12 years of age

Requires defendants convicted of these offenses and sentenced to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 30 years before being eligible for parole consideration

Amends Sections 13A-5-40, 13A-6-61, 13A-6-63, and 13A-6-65.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975

Officially titled the "Child Predator Death Penalty Act"

Effective date: October 1, 2026
