AL SB19

Eliminates out-of-pocket costs (deductibles, copays, coinsurance) for prostate cancer screening for men over 50 years old and high-risk men over 40 years old

Defines "men at high risk" as African American men and men with a father, brother, or son who was diagnosed with, developed, or died from prostate cancer, or who has a cancer or genetic marker associated with higher prostate cancer risk

Requires prostate cancer screening coverage to include at minimum a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal examination

Prohibits health insurers from reducing or eliminating coverage due to these requirements, and bars them from penalizing physicians who order care consistent with the law

Effective date: October 1, 2027
