Households whose sole source of income is veterans' benefits would be exempt from paying solid waste collection fees, expanding an existing exemption that currently applies only to households whose sole income is Social Security benefits

"Veterans' benefits" is defined as any benefit, program, service, or entitlement administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs for veterans, their dependents, or survivors

Households must present proof of income to the county health officer by the first billing date of each year to claim the exemption, and must reapply annually

Providing false or misleading information to obtain the exemption subjects individuals to penalties under Section 22-27-7
