Beginning January 1, 2027, University of Montevallo Board of Trustees terms reduced from 12 years to 8 years, with a two-term limit for trustees appointed after that date.

Quorum requirement for board meetings increased from 5 members to 6 members.

Requirement that the university president must be "an educator by profession" removed; trustees are now only "encouraged to consider" candidates with education backgrounds.

Board composition includes the Governor as ex officio president, State Superintendent of Education ex officio, and 11 appointed trustees representing congressional districts and at-large positions.

Act became effective immediately upon passage (House passed February 5, 2026).
