Alabama Senate Joint Resolution mourning the death of Mary Ann Peak Phelps of Tuscaloosa, who died August 15, 2025, at age 93

Phelps was an Auburn University graduate who taught math and science in Tuscaloosa City and Walker County Schools beginning in 1956

Served 27 years on the Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation Authority board, including as chair; the Mary Ann Phelps Activity Center was named in her honor in 2002

Co-chaired the DCH Foundation capital campaign that funded the $39 million Manderson Cancer Treatment Center, which opened in 2009

Active in numerous civic organizations including YMCA, Junior League, Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, League of Women Voters, and was a founding member of Hospice of West Alabama
