Alabama Legislature joint resolution mourning the death of Junior Harold Sorrells, who passed away January 15, 2026, and celebrating his life and contributions to the state

Born May 15, 1937 in Covington County; served in U.S. Navy aboard U.S.S. Yorktown as Radarman First Class; founded J.H. Sorrells Trucking (later MSJ Trucking) in July 1959, which became one of Alabama's most respected privately held trucking companies

Served as chairman of the Alabama Trucking Association Board of Directors (2004-2005) and received the Chester Webb Award, the association's highest lifetime achievement honor

Served 15 years on the Opp Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors including as president; served on Alabama Ethics Commission; inducted into Opp Hall of Fame in 2014

Survived by wife of 65 years, Jeanette; three daughters; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren
