Recognizes Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham as the 2026 Ferris E. Lucas Sheriff of the Year by the National Sheriffs' Association

Sheriff Cunningham became Montgomery County's first African American sheriff in 2015 and oversees more than 400 employees with a $50.1 million budget covering a 643 square-mile jurisdiction

He served 24 years in the Alabama National Guard, graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy Class 231 in 2007, and served as President of the Alabama Sheriff's Association from 2020-2022

Known for supporting community-based policing, youth mentoring programs, and technology initiatives to reduce crime
