The breed originated from Spanish stock introduced to the Gulf Coast region in the early 1500s, making them among the oldest cattle breeds in North America

The Livestock Conservancy lists the breed as threatened, with fewer than 1,000 annual registrations nationwide

Copies of the resolution will be transmitted to the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries, the Livestock Conservancy, and Pineywoods breeders statewide to promote conservation efforts
