Alabama Legislature joint resolution mourning the death of former Representative Bryant Melton, Jr., who passed away on December 17, 2025, at age 85

Melton served in the Alabama Legislature from 1982 to 2006, being re-elected seven times, and was the first Black legislator elected from Tuscaloosa County since Reconstruction

Sponsored and co-sponsored the Mercedes-Benz bills that brought jobs and economic development to Tuscaloosa and West Alabama, and helped redesign Tuscaloosa's city and county government structures

Served as president of the Tuscaloosa County NAACP chapter from 1972 to 1982, was a U.S. Army veteran with service in Korea, and worked at Shelton State Community College until retiring in August 2006

Resolution offers tribute to his life and service along with sympathy to his surviving family, including his wife of 63 years, three children, and eight grandchildren
