State Police Retirement System members may purchase up to 5 years of credited service for compensated service in the National Guard or armed forces reserve components.

Members must apply to the Board of Trustees, provide proof of service, and pay both employee and employer contributions based on either their first full year of credited service salary or the average of their three highest annual salaries at time of purchase, plus interest.

Purchased service credit requires members to have established at least 5 years of actual service in the system and must be fully paid before retirement to become credited service.

Members cannot purchase service credit in more than one retirement system for the same service period, and cannot receive more than 5 years of total service credit under this section.

Service credit purchased under this section does not make members eligible for benefits from other state-supported retirement systems (except Social Security) and cannot duplicate credit for active duty military service under existing law.
