AR HB1135

Repeals Arkansas Code § 24-7-717, which allowed retired teachers to rescind their retirement decision and return to active employment status in the system.

Eliminates the option for retirees to become active members again, accrue additional credited service, and have their retirement benefits recalculated upon returning to work.

Removes provisions that allowed rescinded members to resume prior retirement benefits if they terminated employment before accumulating one year of additional service.

Declares an emergency effective July 1, 2011, citing the need to align Arkansas Teacher Retirement System statutes with other state pension plans and sound public pension policy.
