School district board members with 12 or more consecutive months of service must obtain 9 hours of training and instruction annually by December 31 (increased from 6 hours).

Board members elected or appointed for initial or non-continuous terms must obtain 6 hours of the required 9 hours by December 31 of the calendar year following their election or appointment.

Training must include at least 3 hours on reading and interpreting audit reports, items required by the Legislative Joint Auditing Committee, and other financial laws or regulations designated by the Arkansas Department of Education.

Audit-related training must be conducted by a licensed accountant with prior school district audit experience who is not an employee of the Division of Legislative Audit and is not the person conducting the school district's annual audit.
