Appropriates $250,000 from the General Improvement Fund to the Department of Rural Services for fire protection grants.

Grants may be awarded to fire departments, counties, municipalities, subdivisions, or other eligible entities for operating, construction, improvements, equipment, renovation, and maintenance expenses.

Eligible expenses include fire protection, search and rescue, emergency medical services, and emergency management programs.

Appropriations are not restricted by requirements applicable to other programs; new rules and regulations may be adopted to implement the act.

Act becomes effective July 1, 2011, declared an emergency to preserve public peace, health, and safety.
