House of Representatives commends Mary L. Philips for founding and directing the Care Cap Connections community cancer project, which provides head scarves to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Project began in late 2005 when Philips, a retired 30-year public school teacher, returned to Arkansas and started sewing head scarves for her sister who had terminal cancer.

Care Cap Connections has expanded from one team at Fairfield Bay to multiple locations including Greenbrier, UAMS-Little Rock, Little Rock Air Force Base, and locations in Louisiana and Florida, with over 1,500 volunteers participating.

Approximately 1,100 care caps are distributed to cancer centers and individuals each month at no charge, with more than 31,500 caps having reached patients across America as of January 2011.

Chief Clerk of the House shall provide an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Philips upon adoption.
