Property owners or authorized agents must obtain a permit before conducting electrical installation, repair, or maintenance work from either the municipality/county or the Board of Electrical Examiners of the State of Arkansas.

Authorized agents may include master electricians performing the work or residential building contractors for single-family dwelling projects.

Emergency electrical work may be performed before permit approval if the permit application is submitted within one business day of the work.

Work performed without a required permit subjects the owner or authorized agent to a fine equal to three times the permit fee amount.

Electrical wiring cannot be concealed from view until inspection approval is obtained, and electricity cannot be transmitted through the work until final inspection confirms compliance with statewide electrical standards.
