Mr. Jon Fitch of Little Rock, Arkansas, died on February 26, 2011, at age 60, and served as Director of the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission from January 22, 2007.

Mr. Fitch served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1979 to 1985 and in the Senate from 1985 to 2002, representing a Senate district spanning eight counties, the largest in the state geographically.

He chaired multiple committees including Public Transportation, Insurance and Commerce, and Legislative Joint Auditing Committee, and served as an expert on state budget and advocate for vocational, technical, and higher education.

Mr. Fitch sponsored or co-sponsored 30 bills that became law in 1997 alone and passed the first Brucellosis Eradication Act in 1985, contributing to Arkansas achieving Brucellosis-free status in 1997.

The Senate recognizes Mr. Fitch's commitment, hard work, and dedication to the State of Arkansas and expresses sincere condolences to his family.
