Special Agent Kevin Brown, age 31, of Van Buren County, was named the 2009 Arkansas State Trooper of the Year on March 19, 2010, and received the department's Medal of Valor for extraordinary acts of valor and gallantry.

Brown was a passenger on an Arkansas National Guard OH-58 helicopter on June 4, 2009, that lost power and crashed into a ten-foot-deep river pool while on a drug task force operation near Marion and Searcy counties.

Despite sustaining internal injuries, Brown freed himself from his seat belt and shoulder harness, swam to rescue a struggling drug task force agent from drowning, and ensured the National Guard pilot safely exited the aircraft.

The Arkansas Senate commends Special Agent Kevin Brown for his service to the State of Arkansas and his selection as the 2009 State Trooper of the Year and Medal of Valor recipient.

The Secretary of the Senate shall provide an appropriate copy of this resolution to Special Agent Kevin Brown upon adoption.
