The Arkansas Senate recognizes Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the oldest Greek-lettered organization for African-American women in the world, with over 200,000 college-educated members and an active membership of 49,000 women.

The sorority's membership includes prominent figures such as Marian Anderson, Maya Angelou, Ella Fitzgerald, and Coretta Scott King, as well as local Arkansas members including Judge Andree Layton Roaf and Senator Linda Chesterfield.

The Beta Pi Omega chapter in Little Rock provides $10,000 annually in scholarships to college-bound young women in Central Arkansas and engages in philanthropic work in education, the arts, economic development, and health.

The sorority operates internationally with five programmatic platforms for the current biennium: "Non-Traditional Entrepreneur," "Economic Keys to Success," "Economic Growth of the Black Family," "Undergraduate Signature Program: Economic Educational Advancement Through Technology," and "Health Resource Management and Economics."

The Senate Secretary shall provide an appropriate copy of this resolution to the national president of Alpha Kappa Alpha upon adoption.
