Inmates in county jail who are charged with a crime but not yet serving a sentence from a conviction must pay for their own medical expenses for preexisting conditions or injuries sustained while committing the offense that led to their jail detention.

A $20.00 booking and administration fee is assessed on persons convicted of a felony or Class A misdemeanor, included in the judgment of conviction or imposed as a cost if sentence is suspended or probation is granted without a judgment of conviction.

Booking and administration fees collected must be deposited into a special county treasury fund used exclusively for the maintenance, operation, and capital expenditures of county jails or regional detention facilities.

An inmate's property is subject to seizure for payment of medical expenses and booking and administration fees owed to the county jail.
