AR SB1171

Amends Arkansas Code § 5-64-308 to permit electronic prescriptions for Schedule II controlled substances when issued in compliance with federal law and regulations, in addition to written, oral, and faxed prescriptions.

Allows electronic prescriptions for Schedule III and IV controlled substances that are prescription drugs, subject to the same federal law and regulatory compliance requirements.

Amends Arkansas Code § 20-64-201(9) to permit official written orders for narcotic drugs to be written and submitted electronically when permitted by federal law.

Adds definition of "written prescription" to Arkansas Code § 20-64-201(16) to include written, oral, faxed, or electronic prescriptions presented in compliance with federal law and regulations.

Makes conforming changes throughout the controlled substances statutes to reflect that electronic prescribing is now authorized, removing outdated language restricting prescriptions to written and oral formats.
