Senate Bill 217 Summary

• Salary of elected officials in first-class cities, second-class cities, or incorporated towns shall be withheld if the official is required to hold a professional license or registration and that license or registration is suspended.

• The agency, board, commission, or authority that suspends the professional license or registration must notify the appropriate municipality or incorporated town in writing.

• The governing body may cease paying the elected official's salary from the date of suspension without requiring a court order.

• Upon restoration of the professional license or registration, the elected official may request salary resumption from the governing body, which shall take measures to resume payment.

• "Salary" includes all compensation and benefits provided to the official, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and retirement benefits; withheld salary is not retroactively paid to the official even after restoration.
