AR HB1261

Extends the threshold for city council to appoint an interim mayor from 6 months to 1 year of unexpired term remaining in the mayoral office.

Requires a special election to fill a mayoral vacancy when more than 1 year of the term remains unexpired.

Authorizes the city governing body to appoint any qualified city elector, including city council members, to serve as acting mayor pending a special election when the unexpired term exceeds 1 year.

Prohibits a council member from voting on their own appointment as acting mayor.

Changes the language of authorization from "is authorized to" to "may appoint" regarding interim mayoral appointments.
