AR HB1465

Creates the Arkansas Stroke Center Designation Act to establish a coordinated system of stroke care throughout Arkansas by designating hospitals into three categories: comprehensive stroke centers, primary stroke centers, and acute stroke-ready hospitals.

Requires the Department of Health to designate hospitals upon application if they hold current certification from the American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, The Joint Commission, or other nationally recognized certifying bodies designated by department rule.

Designations remain valid as long as hospitals maintain their certifications and may be removed if hospitals request removal or their certifications are suspended or revoked.

Requires the Department of Health to annually prepare and post on its website a list of all designated stroke centers by July 1 of each year.

Directs the Department of Health to establish prehospital care guidelines in coordination with emergency medical services providers for assessment, treatment, and transport of stroke patients to the nearest appropriate designated center, and requires the State Board of Health to promulgate rules for EMS provider training when funding is available.
