HB 1505 Summary

• Allows concealed carry licensees to carry handguns in locked, unattended motor vehicles in publicly owned and maintained parking lots at schools, state buildings, and universities.

• Exempts publicly owned parking lots from prohibitions on carrying concealed handguns on school property, State Capitol grounds, and in publicly owned buildings and facilities.

• Defines "parking lot" to mean designated areas or structures for motor vehicle parking or designated drop-off zones for children at schools, excluding parking lots controlled by the Department of Correction or Department of Community Correction.

• Permits concealed carry in publicly maintained parking lots at rest areas, weigh stations, and parking facilities associated with colleges, community colleges, and universities.

• Maintains existing restrictions on carrying concealed handguns inside detention facilities, prisons, and jails, including all parking lots controlled by corrections departments.
