HB 1532 Summary

• Reorganizes the Eighteenth Judicial District effective January 1, 2017, changing composition from Mississippi County only to include both Chickasawba District and Osceola District, with two judges elected (one from each district) beginning January 1, 2021

• Reorganizes multiple local district courts into state district courts effective January 1, 2017, including the Second District (Washington County), Third District (Carroll/Madison counties), Seventh District (Franklin/Johnson counties), and others, with judges elected districtwide and district-wide jurisdiction

• Establishes new state district court reorganizations effective January 1, 2021 for districts including the Seventh, Eleventh, Twelfth, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth, Sixteenth, Seventeenth, Twenty-Fourth, Twenty-Fifth, Thirtieth, Thirty-First, Thirty-Ninth, and Forty-First districts

• Creates additional state district court reorganizations effective January 1, 2029 for the Thirty-Sixth District (Little River/Sevier/Howard counties) and Fortieth District (Clark/Pike counties)

• Requires newly created state district court judgeships to be placed on ballots in the applicable nonpartisan judicial elections and imposes cost-sharing requirements on reorganized districts effective on their reorganization dates
