Board of Corrections shall adopt rules allowing the Department of Correction or Department of Community Correction to reimburse counties for housing state inmates awaiting delivery to state custody for more than 30 days upon receipt of a correct sentencing order.

Counties may be reimbursed for actual costs paid for emergency medical care related to physical injury or illness of retained inmates, provided the county is required by law to provide such care.

Directors of either corrections department may accept custody of an inmate as soon as possible upon county request if the inmate requires extended medical care.

Reimbursements for medical expenses require prior approval from the Department of Correction or Department of Community Correction before health care is rendered.

In true emergency situations, health care may be provided without prior approval, with the applicable corrections department to be notified immediately after the emergency occurs.
