School district boards of directors may accept a certified law enforcement officer from a local law enforcement agency to serve as a school resource officer for school security, safety, emergency preparedness, and emergency response.

School resource officers are granted statewide jurisdiction to issue citations and make arrests as described under Arkansas Code § 16-81-118.

School resource officers may issue citations outside their home county when accompanying students on school-sanctioned events, if the violation involves criminal activity directly involving students, employees, or event participants.

Citations issued by school resource officers must include the district court address and phone number, appearance date and time, specific state law violated, recipient's printed name and date of birth, and recipient's signature or result in immediate arrest.

School resource officers must file citation copies at least 15 days before the court date and provide recipients with complete copies of citations issued.
